Abstract

When I returned to South Africa in 1936 after taking a degree in geology at Cambridge University, I envisaged a career in the mining world and had little idea that I was soon to be plunged into the exciting exploration of the past history of Man in this continent and to enjoy a long and happy association with such vital and inspiring men as Robert Broom, C. van Riet Lowe, Raymond Dart, Louis and Mary Leakey, Desmond Clark.
