Abstract

The basic equations are derived which govern the propagation of random Rayleigh waves in isotropic viscoelastic solids. The particular cases of elastic and low‐loss media are also considered. Since such wave sources as earthquakes or an evolution of material defects are random or incompletely known events, the results may have applications in seismology and nondestructive evaluation of materials.
