Abstract
A few simple mechanical systems are analysed under the following conditions: the load consists of a small, randomly varying part superposed on a constant part; the material is nonlinearly viscoelastic (Hooke-Norton type). Small strain quasistatic theory is used to determine stresses and deformations in a tensile bar and a hyperstatic two-bar system. A perturbation technique is used to find deviations from the corresponding cases of constant loading.
