Abstract

The traditional random lasing system is scatterers in a dye solution. When optically pumped this system shows spectral narrowing above a threshold excitation intensity. A different gain medium of a π-conjugated polymer film also shows spectral narrowing. However, in both cases, narrow emission lines of less than 1 nm appear when the number of loops contributing to the laser emission is limited. Time resolved spectrometry and photon counting are employed to show that the narrow lines are coherent radiation.
