Abstract

Magnetic small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and magnetization measurements on nanostructured Fe are presented. In intermediate external magnetic fields between 0.8 and 1.5 kOe the anisotropic SANS data from samples with small grain sizes produced by inert-gas condensation show a net magnetic component perpendicular to the external field direction. This behavior is explained by the interaction between the ferromagnetic grains and antiferro- or ferrimagnetic interfacial oxide phases.
