Abstract

The unusually large Lorentzian linewidths of Pb3+ EPR spectrum in irradiated calcite and their temperature dependences are analysed in terms of Raman spin-lattice relaxation, corresponding to a Kramers ion with large hyperfine interaction and nuclear spin one-half. The relaxation effects are correlated with the temperature dependence of the hyperfine interaction. A good agreement between theory and experiment is found.
