Abstract

The Raman spectrum of gaseous CF 3CN has been investigated with the aid of a multiple-reflection Raman tube and a 3-prism glass spectrograph of reciprocal linear dispersion 15 A/mm at 4358A. All of the 8 fundamentals and 3 combination or overtone bands were observed. The lowest e fundamental, at 187 cm −1 has a peculiar structure, indicating zero spacing in one of the two series of Q branches. The a 1 fundamental at 818 cm −1 is Fermi-coupled to a combination band. The highest a 1 fundamental, at 2277 cm −1, is markedly asymmetric.
