Abstract

IN two previous communications1 one of us has reported investigations on the structure and Raman spectra of some of the polynuclear aromatic compounds, and we have also submitted elsewhere2 details of the results on the ortho-, meta- and para-diphenyl benzene. In continuation of those investigations we have studied the Raman spectrum of symmetrical triphenyl benzene, in solution in carbon disulphide and carbon tetrachloride and also in other suitable solvents. The melting point of this substance is fairly high and it presents the difficulty that as its temperature is raised to its melting point it tends to become unstable and decompose.
