Abstract

This study presents additional results of a new polystyrene membrane coated with collagen and norbixin (MPSNC) appliedin bone associated or not with light emitting diode (LED) photobiomodulation (PBM) for bone repair. Raman Spectroscopy analysis, which help to detect the amount of hydroxyapatite in the lesion and infer about the mineralization of defects, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and histological analysis were used to evaluate the bone repair process the rat bone after 15th and 30th days of euthanasia. The groups studied were divided in control; MPSNC; LED PBM; and MPSNC + LED PBM, respectively identified with the letters C, M, LED, MLED. After 30 days, the defects presented higher deposition of concentration of hydroxyapatite and a more compact and linear bone for LED group. The association between MPSNC and LED did not result in an improvement of the repair because a more exacerbated inflammatory process occurred, thus delaying the bone repair process.
