Abstract

Raman spectra of alkaline metal doped polyacetylene are investigated at each stage of doping level for (CHNa y) x with y = 0 ∼ 0.16. Several stages in doping are recognized in the change of Raman spectra. Raman and EPR spectra of alkaline metal doped β-carotene are also studied as a model compound of polyacetylene. The correlation of these spectra together with the ab initio SCF MO calculation on the model compound, C 12H 14Li 2, showed that the structured of the heavily alkaline metal doped polyacetylene chain is composed of the array of the charged soliton type and the uniform type structures alternately in series.
