Abstract
The low-frequency Raman spectra of orthoterphenyl and perdeuterated orthoterphenyl crystals and melts were studied in a temperature range from 10 to 335K. Attention was devoted particularly to the low-frequency part of the spectrum (10–200cm−1). Several low-frequency intramolecular modes with frequencies below 150cm−1 were clearly observed in the orthoterphenyl melt. The implication of the present results on the existing empirical models of the liquid–glass transition in orthoterphenyl is discussed.
