Abstract

The borate anomaly in barium borate glass was studied using Raman scattering spectroscopy. The main features of the the boson peak were reproduced by the disorder induced model with an exponential correlation function. An additional peak appears in the shoulder of the boson peak at about 210 cm-1, and increases in intensity markedly above x m=0.32, where the sound velocity shows a maximum. The obtained intermediate correlation length l c is nearly equal to the Ba-Ba distance. The dependence of internal vibration modes on the composition of barium was also studied.
