Abstract
AbstractAn index matching technique for Raman scattering from sapphire fibers is presented; the technique is shown to be effective in suppressing the stray laser background and leads to an improved signal‐to‐noise ratio of the Raman signal. Red shifts of phonon frequencies for both A1g and Eg symmetry modes were observed under tensile uniaxial stress parallel to the c axis. The unexpected shifts of the Eg modes may be attributable to effects due to restricted dimensions.
