Abstract

Room temperature Raman spectra of C 8Rb and C 12 n Rb, n = 2 … 6 and 9? have been obtained. For n ≥ 3 the Raman doublet at ≈1 600 cm −1 has been computer fit with a pair of Lorentzian lines. The ratio of the integrated intensities of the components of the doublet varies linearly with n and is zero at n = 2, in agreement with the “nearest layer” model of Nemanich, Solin and Guérard. We find the ratio of the Raman scattering cross sections for type C and B layers is σ C σ B = 0.3 ± 0.1 .
