Abstract
The Raman spectra of Sm 1− x Y x S for x⪕0.4 have been measured. Electronic scattering between the J = 0 ground state and the J = 1 and 2 excited states of Sm 2+ is observed. The singlet-triplet transition is observed on both sides of the black to gold phase transition in Sm 1− x Y x S.
