Abstract
Raman scattering by electronic excitations in normal and superconducting metals with complex Fermi surfaces is discussed. The theoretical results are applied to the case of high Tc superconductors. The possible implications of measurements of this scattering concerning the symmetry of the gap function is dealt with.
