Abstract

AbstractThe Raman intensity spectra of potassium phosphate and diphosphate in aqueous solution have been measured against perchlorate solution as an external standard. Including the intensities of triphosphate, proportionality was found between the total trace scattering, which covers the PO stretch frequencies only, and the number of PO bonds. The force field for PO was revised according to the requirement of the intensity ratio of ν3 and ν4. A tentative force field for P2O was calculated. Based on these normal coordinate analyses, the electro‐optical parameters of PO bonds in phosphate and pyrophosphate are given.
