Abstract

Abstract We report the experimental results of a tunnelling study of high- T c (Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 (BSCCO) single crystals. The tunnelling conductances G ( V , T ) of Pb—I—BSCCO junctions were investigated in the temperature range 4.2 to 95 K. The superconducting energy gap 2Δ at 4.2 K was estimated at 58 meV. The polarized Raman spectra of BSCCO single crystals were also obtained at room temperature. The Raman active side-band can be attributed to a two-magnon scattering mechanism.
