Abstract

This work proposes a new signal analysis to evaluate the performance of Fiber Raman Amplifiers (FRA). This new analysis is applied to single channel counter-pumped Raman Amplifiers implemented with Dispersion Compensating Fibers (DCF), configured alone or in dispersion-compensation schemes with Single Mode Fibers (SMF). Significative parameters for Raman Amplifier design as Net Gain (NG), Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) and Eye Penalty Degradation are obtained for various pump and input signal levels. This new method permits a complete assessment to all parameters necessary for a proper fiber Raman Amplifier design.
