Abstract
The analysis of the ..cap alpha.. determination methods (..cap alpha.. = the fine structure constant) leads to the conclusion that the error in determining the fine structure constant can be reduced to 1 x 10/sup -6/. Moreover, it follows that the voltage drop across the tunnel barrier is measured with an error which depends on ..delta cap alpha../..cap alpha.. and does not exceed 5 x 10/sup -7/.
