Abstract

This paper proposes an analysis for the facts of Raising as they occur in the Cuzco dialect of Quechua. The proposed analysis reduces to 'Move CASE' which shares the basic properties of 'Move Wh' as described in Chomsky (1977). This analysis sheds light on the complex facts of Quechua and it contributes to the refinement of some aspects of the GB theory, namely Case Theory, Theta theory, and Binding theory. Unbounded Wh-movement and stative-like passive configurations are also analysed as instantiations of 'Move CASE'.
