Abstract

Epidemiological results both retrospective and prospective in a working middle aged male population show alterations of the serum electrophoretic protein fractions in men with coronary heart disease (CHD) and men who will develop CHD. The α 2 protein fraction appears as a risk factor of CHD independently of clinical diabetes and the standard CHD risk factors as hypercholesterolemia, high blood pressure, tobacco consumption and ECG abnormalities.
