Abstract

The washoff of pollutants from urban surfaces by storm events depends on the kinetic energy of storms. In order to determine the erosive power of rainfall, data on raindrop size distributions were analyzed and the kinetic energy expressed as a function of rainfall intensity. Results indicate that the regression equation that is currently used to determine storm erosive power from rainfall intensity needs to be revised.
