Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is suitable to be used for data collections, monitoring, and predictions. For instance, IoTs were used in projects related to solar energy, mechanical thermoelectric, and wind flow. However, IoTs are not popular for projects related to rain. Rain occurrence was a major contributor to natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and droughts. Therefore, in this paper, we present a rainfall monitoring and prediction system using IoTs known as RMPS. The project's main aim is to identify the parameters related to rainwater, monitor, and predict rainfall. The prototyping process model was used for this project, consisting of requirement analysis, design, development, user evaluation, prototype refinement, and maintenance. The use of sensors such as rain sensors and water level sensors must be related to each other and will be connected to user applications. The sensor will be activated when it detects raindrops and will send data to the server and send the alert to the user. Users must have an internet network and turn on the application notification button to always get updated data and as well as can predict the rain and water level through the application. Besides that, it has an alarm system that can alert users if the rain occurrences are at an alarming level. From the analysis of the RMPS IoT product and its mobile application, it can be concluded that the respondents showed positive feedback. More than 85% of respondents agreed with the usability of the RMPS mobile application. The system will be useful for people living in an area with a medium or high risk of floods, landslides, and droughts.
