Abstract

A disk array architecture that generalizes the RAID (redundant arrays of inexpensive disks) level V data organization while providing excellent storage utilization, response times, and fault tolerance is discussed. A key feature of the approach is that reliability groups can contain several check data disks beyond the single parity disk. RAID response times for fault-free and failure recovery operations are presented. >
