Abstract
Poly(2-hydroxyethyl acrylate)-poly(4-hydroxybutyl acrylate) nano-objects are prepared by aqueous polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) using an ionic RAFT agent.
Highlights
Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) offers a robust and highly versatile synthetic route to a wide range of welldefined block copolymer nano-objects in the form of concentrated colloidal dispersions.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8] PISA involves growing an insoluble block from one end of a soluble precursor block in a suitable solvent
The HOOC–PHEA73–PHBA217 nanoparticles proved to be sensitive to added salt, with incipient flocculation occurring in the presence of 20–60 mM KCl owing to charge screening
The synthesis of new all-acrylic PHEAx–PHBAy diblock copolymer nano-objects has been achieved via an efficient one-pot aqueous PISA protocol
Summary
Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) offers a robust and highly versatile synthetic route to a wide range of welldefined block copolymer nano-objects in the form of concentrated colloidal dispersions.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8] PISA involves growing an insoluble block from one end of a soluble precursor block in a suitable solvent. As far as we are aware, such dilution instability is seldom reported for PISA-synthesized nano-objects.[45] this explanation is consistent with the relatively narrow DLS particle size distributions, small z-average diameters and the linear increase in apparent nanoparticle diameter with PHBA DP.[75] we have recently reported that the structuredirecting PHBA block is only weakly hydrophobic.[42,50]
