Abstract

Abstract Adults of Artemia were irradiated when their oocytes were at different stages of the first meiotic prophase (corresponding respectively to pachytene, and to early and late diakinesis) or in the first meiotic metaphase. The criterion of damage induced by X-radiation was hatchability. It was found that, either with 500 R or with 1000 R, the oocytes were more sensitive in prophase than in metaphase, and that there was a progressive decrease in sensitivity during the course of the prophase.
