Abstract

Aerosol samples originating from the JCO criticality accident were collected around JCO for measurements by γ-ray spectrometry with a high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector and high-purity germanium low-energy photon detector (LOAX). Fission products were not detected in four samples of atmospheric particles from three sites. A trace amount of 131 I was detected in a sample collected on activated carbon with a quartz fiber filter. The concentration of 131 I corrected to the termination time of the criticality accident was (43±10)×10 −6 Bq m −3.
