Abstract

It is shown that solutions of reference radionuclides can be obtained by photoactivation of water suspensions with 20.5 MeV microtron bremsstrahlung. Solutions of 54Mn, 57,58Co, 65Zn, 88Y, 99Mo, 106mAg, 114mIn, 139,141Ce, 203Hg, and 203Pb with specific activity (0.4–33.5)·104 Bq/liter and radionuclide purity of at least 99.9% are used to prepare standard γ-ray sources based on natural material, which are to be used for calibration of the counting geometry for γ-spectra in the energy range 5–120 keV. The content of stable carrier elements in solutions, with the exception of 106mAg, has no appreciable influence on the effective charge and density of the sources.
