Abstract

Methane containing 0.1, 1.0, and 10.0 mole% oxygen was irradiated with low doses (( 4 x 10/sup 16/ ev/ml) and the methyl hydroperoxide and total peroxide yields determined. The G (methyl hydroperoxide) 3.5 was found to be equal to G (total peroxide) within experimental error and to be independent of the oxygen concentration. The results are discussed in terms of reaction mechanisms. (D.L.C.)
