Abstract

Radioecological studies were carried out of the Baiji nuclear power plant potential site. The annual effective dose equivalents for the highest exposed individual resulting from the atmospheric and aquatic releases of radionuclides from the WER nuclear power plant were estimated. The source term was furnished by Atomteploele Troproekt, USSR, in the site selection feasibility study for the nuclear power plant location in Iraq. Dispersion calculations were based on synoptic data obtained from the Baiji meteorological station, Iraqi Meteorological Organization. Demographic distribution was based on census information, Ministry of Planning, 1987. The computer code AIRDOS‐EPA was used to estimate radiation doses due to the atmospheric release of radionuclides, while the LADTAPII computer code was used to estimate radiation doses due to aquatic release of radionuclides. The Baiji potential site was found to be suitable for the construction and the operation of the WER 440 nuclear power plant according to the ra...
