Abstract

The radiological characterisation (RC) of a Cyclotron requires a comprehensive radiological characterization plan (RCP) to ensure accurate and reliable results. The plan includes the objectives, methods and procedures for characterizing the radiological conditions of the facility. Radiological characterization itself involves implementing the radiological characterization plan by measurement and collection of data, which is then analysed and presented in a radiological characterization report. Effective planning is critical in developing a detailed understanding of the facility and identifying potential sources of radioactive materials. This paper outlines the importance of planning in the radiological characterization process and provides a summary of a characterization plan developed for IFIN-HH's U-120-1 Cyclotron during its transition from operation to decommissioning phase.
