Abstract

A specific radioimmunoassay for gastric inhibitory polypeptide has been developed using guinea pig antisera raised to porcine gastric inhibitory polypeptide. Highly purified 125I-porcine gastric inhibitory polypeptide, further purified on Sephadex G-15 after labeling, was employed as a tracer. The sensitivity range is 25 to 250 pg. No cross reactivity could be demonstrated with gastrin, glucagon, secretin, cholecystokinin-pancreozymin, motilin, and vasoactive intestinal peptide. Reproducibility of determinations in different assays was demonstrated. The mean fasting serum concentration was 237 ± 14 pg per ml in 48 normal subjects. Serum concentrations increased to above 1,200 pg after a meal.
