Abstract

Introduction: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a persistent communication between the aorta and the pulmonary artery beyond the immediate postpartum period. It occurs more frequently in premature infants < 28 weeks gestation or weighing < 1500 mg at birth. PDA closure may occur spontaneously or require medical or surgical treatments.
