Abstract

Background: The goal of hepatectomy for primary and metastatic hepatic tumors remains resection with no residual disease on the transection line. Perioperative blood transfusion and postoperative morbidity are considered as independent predictors of survival, emphasizing the importance of procedures that minimize intraoperative blood loss. Radiofrequency-assisted liver resection has recently shown it can significantly reduce intraoperative blood loss. The need for blood transfusion is still considered a crucial factor in predicting the outcomes of these patients.
