Radiofrequency ablation procedures for uterine fibroids

Abstract

This is a video presenting the two currently available FDA approved devices for radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of fibroids. The technology and tissue effects of radiofrequency ablation are reviewed. This video is intended for gynecologists who may consider performing these procedures. Surgeons are introduced to the equipment and basic steps required to perform laparoscopic ultrasound guided radiofrequency fibroid ablation using the Acessa system and transcervical ultrasound guided radiofrequency ablation using the Sonata system. This video will increase awareness of conservative surgical options for treatment of uterine fibroids using radiofrequency ablation and provide an introduction to these techniques for gynecologic surgeons who are considering adoption of this technology in their practice.
