Abstract

Osmium metal enriched to 98.68 % in the mass number 192 was irradiated with 24 MeV alpha particles. An activity with a halflife of 4.2±0.1 h was produced and its assignment to Ir 195 confirmed by identification of the platinum K X-ray. In addition to the X-rays the observed activity of Ir 195 consists of gamma rays of 190 and 290 keV in coincidence. Transition probabilities are shown in a proposed energy level diagram.
