Pencil beam and preliminary interferometer observations. Burns, J. O. Abstract Observations of a sample of 4C sources which lie in the directions of Zwicky clusters of galaxies are presented. These observations were performed with the NRAO Green Bank 300-ft telescope and the three-element interferometer at 11 cm. From the assumed homogeneous distribution of 4C sources on the sky, one expects statistically that 36 + 11 out of a total of 149 coincidences are truly associated with Zwicky clusters of &> + 20 . Eighteen of these 4C sources lie in Abell clusters, leaving 18 + 11 expected associations with non-Abell Zwicky clusters. The most probable background sources were isolated from the sample by examination of the optical fields. In the subsample of background coincidences, it was found that 4C sources associated with blank fields or sources whose ID's brightness are inconsistent by several magnitudes with that expected for true Zwicky cluster galaxies are typically <1' in size. Twenty-four of the remaining 28 potential cluster sources are identified with diffuse, galaxylike objects and are generally > 1'.
