Abstract

Heavy rainfall and severe weather was observed in Kolkata and in total over the Gangetic West Bengal on July 27- 28, 2021. The recorded rainfall was 76 mm. over Kolkata and its neighboring Salt-Lake city it was 50 mm. This is due to formation of a low pressure belt. This low pressure belt was formed over North Bay of Bengal and its vicinity on July 27, 2021. On July 28, 2021 this low pressure area spreads over the coastal area of Bangladesh, Gangetic West Bengal with rainfall and thunderstorm events. This low pressure area is supported with a cyclonic circulation. In this work the upper atmospheric radiosonde analysis of the transient activity of this low pressure belt and associated rainfall content are also considered. In addition to this the extremely low and very low frequency radio signals on this event for recording the transient effect is also considered. Confirmatory results of the phases of the analysis give the distinct features of the life cycle of a low pressure belt.
