Abstract

The most important factors determining the performance of radio systems are the good location of radio antennas, good radio path planning and the choice of an interference-free radio channel. Radio network and path planning begins with determining the planned locations of the radio stations. Site survey visits or computer-based tools are then used to predict the likely radio propagation between the two end-points of the link, or over the area of a given base station's cell. The effect of obstacles should also be assessed. This chapter covers in detail the appropriate path planning considerations.
