Abstract

We present new radio observations of the suspected supernova remnant G2.4 + 1.4 made at 4.86 GHz with a resolution of 11 × 31 arcsec2. These reveal a remarkable radio structure with curved filaments which correspond closely with the optical emission in Hα and [O III]. No significant linear polarization is detected. The radio continuum spectrum of G2.4 + 1.4 and its nature, as either a wind-blown bubble, or a supernova remnant (whether a conventional SNR, one dominated by twin-beams from a central source, or by a high-velocity accreting binary system) are discussed. We prefer the former interpretation as there is no substantive evidence that any more exotic mechanism is required.
