Abstract

AbstractSustainability concepts are adopted via new technologies to achieve the highest gains without compromising the projects' objectives. One of these technologies is radio frequency identification (RFID). This research investigated the influence of various drivers and benefits of RFID implementation on the achievement of sustainable construction projects. A close‐ended questionnaire detailing the necessary variables were administered to relevant construction professionals in the study area. Results of exploratory factor analysis of the data revealed that the drivers of RFID could be grouped into three primary constructs: technology, industry, and culture. However, the benefits of implementing RFID have two primary constructs: resources and environment. This study employed a partial least square structural equation modeling to further evaluate the connections among drivers and the application of RFID in the building industry. Results indicated that implementing RFID in the building industry will aid the sustainability of construction projects. The findings of this study will assist policy makers concerned with the performance and sustainability of construction projects through the adoption of available technologies including RFID.
