Abstract

A Battery Management System (BMS) architecture with wireless communications could improve the modularity of battery pack and simplify the maintenance steps of batteries. Hence, the aim of this study is to demonstrate that radio transmission is possible between the cells of an electric vehicle battery pack and the BMS in its operational environment. Experimental results show that radio frequency communications using IEEE 802.15.4 radio modules at 2.4 GHz inside a battery pack are possible in driving conditions. This feasibility of a wireless communication in this harsh environment opens the path for innovative BMS architectures.
