Abstract Synthesis maps of the Sgr A and Sgr B2 regions at 2695 and 8085 MHz have been obtained using the three- element interferometer of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO). The highest resolution achieved is 2". In both Sgr A and Sgr B2 continuum fine structure has been observed (size < 10") and in both cases the observations at the two frequencies indicate that this small-scale structure is probably thermal emission from hot optically thick regions. Much of the Sgr A fine structure is directionally coincident with infrared sources thought to be at the galactic center, and therefore probably arises from hot dense gas very near the center. Conditions near the galactic center relevant to these observations are discussed. The Sgr B2 fine structure is probably higher in density but otherwise similar to compact H ii regions associated with other complexes of galactic H ii regions and molecular clouds.
