Abstract

A model for generating electromagnetic fields in the ELF/VLF range accompanying the final stage of the evolution of meteorites in the Earth’s atmosphere is presented. The phenomenon of low-frequency radio emission is an experimentally proven fact; however, the currently known generation models are not supported by numerical calculations that would not contradict the experimental facts. The present model does not resort to exotic hypotheses, but on the basis of well-known phenomena it shows how electromagnetic fields can be realized at the final stage of the meteoroid’s flight. The numerically obtained estimates of the electric field strength and the nature of the spectral intensity reflect the main features of the experimental measurements.
