Abstract Radio detection of the rapidly rotating, variable star FK Comae is reported. Observations were made at 20 cm and 6 cm, and 7 days later at 6 cm and 2 cm. The flux density at 6 cm on both days was essentially the same, and it is believed that the flux densities at the three wavelengths determine the spectrum. It is argued, on the basis of the radio spectrum and the observed X-ray flux, that the radiation cannot be thermal, and probably arises from the acceleration of electrons in coronal streamers. A model is derived for this nonthermal component.
