Abstract

Abstract The kinetics of polymerization of zinc acrylate (ZnA2) initiated by As2S3 - styrene complex(I) in dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) at 90°±0.1°C for 1 hr followed non-ideal kinetics due to primary radical termination. The rate of polymerization was direct function of [polar solvent] but reverse function of [non-polar solvent] and [hydroquinone]. The overall activation energy (Ea) and value of k2 p/kt are 26 kJ/mol and 1.55 ×10−41 mol−1 S−1 respectively. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of polymer was 421°C and the polymer was characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy.
