Abstract
Abstract Radical Orthodoxy is a contemporary theology, influenced by Augustine and Anglo‐Catholicism, that is opposed to key assumptions and values of modern democratic societies. First and foremost, Radical Orthodoxy is opposed to secularism, the thesis that political order, morality, and society can operate without reference to God. In contesting secularism, proponents of Radical Orthodoxy hearken back to the philosophy of the Neoplatonists, medieval thinkers influenced by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. From the Neoplatonists, Radical Orthodoxy takes the notion that the whole created universe has its existence and value only because it participates in the Being of God.
