Abstract

1. The homolytic reaction of n-butyl propargyl sulfide with n-butyl mercaptan under the influence of UV light, using a variable ratio of the reactants, leads to the formation of 1,3-bis(butylthio)propene and 1,2,3-tris(butylthio)propane. 2. The reaction of n-butyl mercaptan with propargyl chloride under the influence of UV light at 25° gives, along with 1-chloro-2,3-bis(butylthio)propane and 1,2,3-tris(butylthio)propane, also 1,1,3-tris(butylthio)propane. 3. The addition of n-butyl mercaptan to 1,3-bis(butylthio)propene in the presence of HC1 gives 1,1,3-tris(butylthio)propane.
