Abstract

Some new results are reported on the radiative relaxation times (nonequilibrium emission coefficient) of high-speed shock waves (0.6−1.2 cm/μsec) in air at p1 = 1 Torr. The relaxation times are shown to be due to molecular processes for shock velocities below 0.93 cm/μsec and are caused by ionization beyond 0.95 cm/μsec.
